Building code disclaimer

BuildCheck US runs automated permit checks against baseline International Residential Code models and the local amendments we have on file.

Effective November 2, 2026

Permit exemption results and cost estimates are for information only. They are not structural engineering, architectural approval, a permit, or legal advice.

City and county amendments, historic district overlays, setback requirements, easements and the rules of the authority having jurisdiction can change or override the baseline thresholds we use. Our data may not include the latest changes.

Before you design, buy materials or start construction, confirm the requirements with your local building department.

A result that says a project is exempt from a building permit does not exempt it from electrical, plumbing or mechanical permits, zoning, HOA rules, or utility locate requirements. Those can still apply.

Cost figures use sample regional trade rates and standard quantities. Actual prices depend on materials, site conditions, labor and your contractor's quote.

Contractor listings come from public registries and what contractors submit to us. Verify a license with the state licensing board before you hire anyone. BuildCheck US does not guarantee the quality or legality of any contractor's work.
